Forensics Teams Return to Action

by Gary Leiker

Forensics students from Southeast High School and the three attendance centers returned to action April 12, attending tournaments hosted at Colgan High School.  Both squads put up strong performances and walked away with some impressive results.

The high school fielded a young team at the tournament, but still captured fourth place overall with 119 sweepstakes points.  There were 17 schools in attendance.  Junior Brandon McGehee placed 3rd and 4th in Humorous Interpretation and Prose, respectively.  Sophomore Micah McCready advanced to finals in Original Oration, where she ended with a fifth place finish.  Freshmen Lindsay Shoemaker and Clint Glaser also advanced to finals, with Lindsay winning second place in Dramatic Interpretation and Clint capturing sixth place in International Extemporaneous Speaking.

Competing in only their second tournament of the season, seventh and eighth grade students from McCune, Cherokee, and Weir had a productive day.  In Student Congress, Kaylee Eubank placed seventh, Tessa Robin finished in fourth, and Lori Henderson captured first place.  There were 14 students competing in the event.  Later in the day, Kelsey Green earned first place in Oral Interpretation of Literature to go along with her third place finish in Solo Acting.  Tyler Fleck, Jordan Daniels, and Kamele Brown finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively in Oral Interpretation of Literature.  The duo of Kaylee Eubank and Paige Zimmerman placed fifth in Duet Acting, while Lori Henderson and Jennifer Dey walked away with first place in the same event.

"It was good to get back into action," commented coach Gary Leiker.  "The students really enjoy competing, and I certainly enjoy watching them compete.  The season is winding down, but we still have some important tournaments coming up.  If everyone works hard, I'll be excited to see what we can do both individually and as a team over the next few weeks."
