SHS Forensics Second in League
April 09, 2009
The Southeast Forensics Squad started the season with a goal of winning the CNC League Forensics Tournament. Though they fell just short of their goal, the second place finish was the squad's highest finish of the season and a good step toward even greater success in the future. Fifteen of Southeast's 27 entries advanced to the final round of competition--by far the highest total at a single tournament this year.
Southeast had three of the six finalists in Extemporaneous Speaking. Clint Glaser, Kelsey Green, and Kevin Fleck finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. The Lancers also broke three into finals in Original Oration. CJ Clauson and Micah McCready finished first and second in the event, with Ashley Selby placing fourth. For Micah, her second place finish qualified her for the state tournament in May. CJ had already qualified.
Natasha Hunter placed fourth in Informative, and Jesse Hudson earned fifth in Prose. Emilee Ulmer placed sixth in Prose, to go along with her fifth place finish in Poetry. Brandon McGehee and Lindsay Shoemaker captured first and sixth in Humorous Interpretation, respectively. Mercedes Eckles ended in third place in Dramatic Interpretation. To round out the impressive showing, Brandon McGehee and Micah McCready took third place in Improvised Duet Acting. Morgan Windsor and Ashley Selby took fourth in the same event.
"The kids were really excited to see us do as well as we did. It was really fun to watch," observed coach Gary Leiker. "I hope the underclassmen will remember this and use it to build upon next year. Our season is about over, but I'm already looking forward to what the future might bring."
