Cupcakes Anyone????
February 08, 2010
As the 6th graders from Weir finished their chapter over Properties and Changes they had the opportunity to conduct a tasty experiment from the chapter. The students were put into four groups. Each group had to use teamwork and cooperation to come up with one cake mix they would like to bake. While the groups were creating cupcakes they had to keep track of their materials, procedure, and who exactly did what in the cupcake process! While the cupcakes were undergoing their chemical and physical changes the students had to answer questions about their lab. When the cupcakes were cool and iced, each student had the delicious privilege in trying the other groups' cupcakes. The leftover cupcakes were served to the entire junior high and some staff. The final stage of the lab was to create a word document of their materials, procedure, questions and answers, and their reflection. In the end, I believe the students had a good time learning science through the process of baking cupcakes!!!
