UPDATED FEBRUARY 8: Friday, February 10 is Winter Homecoming at Southeast High School, with the Lancers hosting the Riverton Rams. Girls Varsity tips off at 6 p.m. in East gym., followed by 2 quarters of JV Girls, the Homecoming Coronation, and then Boys Varsity. Boys JV is in West gym and is expected to start about 5:45 p.m.

Students chose a Disney theme, with “Making Dreams Come True Since 1961”. Monday is “Disney Duo”, and SHS students are encouraged to plan with a friend and dress as their favorite Disney duo; Tuesday is “Sleeping Beauties”, and students are encouraged to weir their favorite pajamas; Wednesday is “Onaha”, it’s time to dress for a tropical paradise vacation; and, Thursday is “Mickey & Minnie”, and students are encouraged to wear their Southeast gear along with Mickey and Minnie ears.
Friday, February 10, is Staff Development and students do not have school, but that night Southeast High School will host Riverton. The Varsity Girls game tips off at 6:00 p.m., with the Boys Varsity game afterward.
About the candidates:
The freshman candidate is Emily Grant. Her parents are Kim and Buck Grant, her sister is Erika Grant and her brother is Zack Musgrove. Emily participates in FBLA, HOSA, Student Council, and Volleyball. She is a member of the All A-B Honor Roll. Her favorite teachers are Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Witt. Emily’s hobbies include reading, watching Netflix, playing volleyball, and being with friends. She says the best thing about high school is seeing friends every day, participating in the clubs and sports, and working at the Spirit Shack. After high school, Emily plans to go to college, be an anesthesiologist, and travel.
Emily is escorted by senior, Colton Trejo. His parents are Jonna and Benney Gomez, and he has a sister and brother – Brianna and Junior Gomez. Colton participates in Baseball, Basketball, FBLA, FCA, Football, TRiO and TSA. He was named All-CNC Honorable Mention for Football in both his junior and senior years; and, was named CNC Honorable Mention his junior year in Baseball. His favorite class is Video Production with Mr. Coots. Colton’s hobbies include sports, and work. He says the best thing about high school is being around all of his friends. After high school, Colton plans to pursue a double major in Sports Medicine and Youth Ministry.
The sophomore candidate is Megan Colvin. Her parents are Vic and Mary Colvin. Her siblings are Aubrey, Brady, Nolan and Tori. Megan participates in FBLA, FCA, FFA, KAYS, National Honor Society, Softball, Spirit Shack, Student Council, Volleyball and Yearbook. She is a State qualifier in FFA; and, a two time State qualifier in FBLA, as well as a National qualifier in FBLA. Megan also holds the school record for most strikeouts thrown in a softball game – 17, which she threw last year as a freshman. Her favorite class is World History and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Trezona. Megan’s hobbies include “working the aux” and playing softball. She says the best thing about high school is when Principal Malle yells “who are we going to beat?” at pep rallies. After high school, Megan plans to become a flight attendant like her older sister, Tori.
Megan is escorted by junior, Jacob Burns. His parents are Jeff and Denise Burns. His brother is Henry and his sister is junior homecoming candidate, Daisy Burns. Jake participates in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, FBLA, FCA, National Honor Society, Student Council, and TSA. He is a State qualifier in FBLA this year in four categories, three of which are as FBLA District Champion; he is also a two-time TSA National qualifier Digital Video; and, he beat fellow candidate Dylan Wilson in their fantasy football league’s championship game this season. Jake’s favorite class is Video Production with Mr. Coots. His hobbies include watching TV and playing fantasy football. He says the best thing about high school is sharing stupid jokes with his friends. After high school, Jake plans to attend a university to pursue a business degree.
The junior candidate is Daisy Burns. Her parents are Jeff and Denise Burns; and, her brothers are Jake and Henry Burns. Daisy participates in Cheer, FBLA, FCA, FCCLA, National Honor Society, Spirit Shack, TSA and Volleyball. She was FFA State Top 10 her freshman year, has been State TSA Top 10, is a three time State qualifier in FBLA, a two time National qualifier in FBLA, and a top 15 finalist at FBLA Nationals. Daisy’s favorite class is accounting and her favorite teacher is Mr. Coots. Her hobbies include reading, writing, and hanging out with friends. She says the best thing about high school is being involved in multiple clubs and sports that create memories. After high school, Daisy plans to attend Pittsburg State University.
Daisy is escorted by junior Dylan Wilson. His parents are Chris and Lori Wilson; and his brothers are Hayden and Jordan Wilson. Dylan participates in Basketball, FBLA and TSA. Along with fellow candidate, Jake Burns, this year Dylan is a FBLA District Champion in three team categories: Digital Video, Public Service Announcement, and Sports Management. He is the 2016 runner-up in his fantasy football league – losing to the aforementioned Mr. Burns – but was the league champion last year. Dylan’s favorite class is Video Production with Mr. Coots. His hobbies include playing basketball and playing 2K sports video games. He says the best thing about high school is being with his friends and playing sports. After high school, Dylan plans to go to college.
The senior candidate is Bailee Ulery. Her parents are Joe and Beth Ulery; and, her siblings are Cade and Riley Ulery. Bailee participates in Basketball, FBLA, FCA, KAYS, National Honor Society, SAFE, Spirit Shack, Volleyball and Yearbook. Bailee is a FBLA State Qualifier and is the FBLA treasurer and Spirit Shack manager. In 2015-16, she was named All-County Honorable Mention in Volleyball, and Craw-Kan and All-CNC Honorable Mention in Basketball. This year, in Volleyball, she was named All-CNC 2nd Team and All County 1st Team. Bailee’s favorite class is Yearbook with Mrs. Witt. Her hobbies include reading a good book and watching Netflix. She says the best thing about high school is hanging out with friends. After high school, Bailee plans to attend college and further her sports career.
Bailee’s escort is senior Cole Burdette. His parents are Broc and Trish Burdette; and, his brother is Cade Burdette. Cole participates in Baseball and Basketball. As a sophomore in 2015, Cole was named 1st Team All-CNC outfielder in Baseball. Last year, in basketball, he was named to the Craw-Kan All-Area Team and was named All-CNC Honorable Mention; and, in baseball, he was a unanimous selection as All-CNC 1st Team Outfield, and was named to the All-State 1st Team Outfield. Cole’s favorite class is Workshop with Mr. Rockers. His hobbies include playing sports, fishing, and hanging out with friends. He says the best thing about high school is “growing up”. After high school, Cole plans to go to college, and then become a state trooper.
