USD 247 BOE tells McCune mayor “everything is negotiable” regarding potential lease for McCune school
NEWS RELEASE:
The McCune mayor was in attendance at a Special Meeting of the USD 247 Board of Education on Thursday night. Mayor Don Call said he was there to get more information regarding a letter the City of McCune received from the Board of Education offering a lease proposal for the school campus in their community.
He was told “everything is negotiable”.
Board members told Call that the letter was simply an invitation to discuss a possible lease agreement. They said they would like to have a committee of one or two people from the school board meet with one or two people from the City of McCune to come up with a draft for a lease proposal. That draft would include everything from how much square footage the city would use, to how to do insurance, utilities, etc. Each committee would then take the draft back to their respective boards for input.
Mayor Call was told that the only thing the Board of Education needs at this time is a statement in writing that lists the portions of the campus the City of McCune is interested in occupying with intended use. That way both the school board and the City of McCune have a starting point for discussions.
Mayor Call said the city was interested in portions of the campus, specifically naming the football field and portions of the land around it as an example. Mayor Call said he would contact their council members and get in touch with the school board.
