USD 247 Southeast to return money to county treasurer’s office

NEWS RELEASE:

Under the advisement of its attorneys the USD 247 Southeast Board of Education has sent a total of $108,328.36 to the appropriate county treasurer’s offices.

The money was improperly collected for the 2013-2014 school year due to a clerical error and would have been used towards Capital Outlay expenses, such as the district’s share of a tornado safe room that will be built at Southeast Elementary School.

After months of research and discussions the district’s attorneys at the Kansas Association of School Boards recommended that the 2013-2014 Capital Outlay taxes be returned to the respective county treasurer’s offices.

A check for $40,093.61 has been sent to the Cherokee County Treasurer’s Office. A check for $65,318.42 has been sent to the Crawford County Treasurer’s Office. A check for $448.66 has been sent to the Labette County Treasurer’s Office. A check for $2,467.67 has been sent to the Neosho County Treasurer’s Office.

Board members with the USD 247 Southeast Board of Education passed the motion unanimously at Monday night’s regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
