Southeast FFA Freshman Add to Their 2014 Accomplishments
By Scott Sutton, FFA Sponsor
It was already a successful first semester for Southeast Freshman FFA members as they experienced great success earlier in the year at the Southeast District FFA Greenhand Conference. That day in September Freshman Daisy Burns brought home the district Creed Speaking Championship, while fellow classmate Jacob McGuire walked away with the district Spelldown Championship. The group of 12 first year FFA members commonly referred to as Greenhands, also placed 7th out of 24 district schools in the FFA Information competition.
The group of freshman continued their award winning ways this past Friday as they competed in the Southeast District FFA Leadership Competition held in Longton, KS. The team brought home four pieces of hardware as they took 2nd place in the FFA Information Test, 3rd place in the Parliamentary Procedure Demonstration, and 3rd place in the FFA Ritual Demonstration. After combining the contest together for an overall score, Southeast came out tied in 2nd place overall with Girard. Uniontown won the contest.
Competing in all three sections of the contest were Southeast FFA Greenhand Officers: President Eric Underwood, Vice President Laura Ridings, Secretary Daisy Burns, Treasure Jacob McGuire, Reporter Wyntr Jacobs and Sentinel Hannah Williams. Individual honors went to Jacob McGuire and Eric Underwood, both tied for 6th place individual in the Information Test category, while Hannah Williams was selected to the District Greenhand Master Ritual Team for her performance as the Sentinel in the Ritual Demonstration.
