USD 247 Southeast has offered Chanute Principal Brad Miner a contract to be their next Superintendent.  Miner has accepted the position pending release from his current contract with Chanute Schools.

Mr. Miner has been the Principal of Royster Middle School in Chanute, Kansas since 2004.  From the Riverton area, he is a former industrial arts teacher at Montrose High School in Montrose, Missouri, and has also been a Curriculum Writer for Synergistic Systems in Pittsburg, Kansas.  He was the Technical Education Teacher, then Assistant Principal at Royster Middle School before becoming its principal.

USD 247 Southeast Board of Education President Greg Hite said when Mr. Miner visited the school district last week he did the little things that made it clear that he wanted to be a part of Southeast.  Mr. Hite said Mr. Miner spoke not just with staff during his tour, but also with students, and staff and patrons were impressed with his responses to questions.

“We were impressed with how he came in as if he were a Lancer already,” said Mr. Hite.  “Everything we heard from references and associates said he was a person of integrity and positive attitude.  His background of teaching technology and industrial arts should be a great fit with the direction current superintendent Dr. Glenn Fortmayer is taking us.”

Mr. Miner has been named the Middle School Principal of the Year, Exemplary Middle School Principal, and Administrator of the Year, has been a Clyde U. Phillips Distinguished Service Award nominee, PSU Outstanding Educator nominee, and receiving the PSU Department of Technology Studies Excellence of Professional Service Award.  In 2012 Royster Middle School was a finalist for the KAMSA Middle School of the Year.  He has also done volunteer work for the Kiwanis Club, Muscular Dystrophy, Autism for Hope, Adopt a Child, the Salvation Army and the Masonic Lodge.

With no previous experience as a superintendent, Mr. Hite said the board is confident a support system is in place to help Mr. Miner with the transition.

“The resources of fellow area superintendents and the experts at Greenbush and KASB is a great asset to even experienced superintendents, and we are fortunate to have an experienced staff in the district office,” Mr. Hite said.

Mr. Hite also noted that Mr. Miner has a mentoring relationship with Steve Parsons, who is a Southeast graduate and past teacher at the school, a retired superintendent, and is now an Education Consultant at the Greenbush Education Service Center.
