The Southeast Lancers
have one last chance at a
victory.
After an 0-8 regular season, the Lancers play one
last time in a Class 1A consolation game against the
Northern Heights Wildcats at home on Thursday.
“The kids don’t want
to quit,” Southeast head
coach Nick Cheney said.
“They get one more week
and we’ll play (Thursday
night) and I hope we just
come away with the win.”
The Lancers come
into the week after a 12-0
heartbreaker against
Northeast in Class 1A District 1. Southeast earned
129 yards of total offense.
Aden Smith threw for 90
yards on 10 completions
and Teagan Warner led
the Lancers with four
receptions for 39 yards.
Kyler Brewer also caught
four passes, totaling 21
yards. Dalton Davis led the
team on the ground with
22 yards on five carries.
The Lancer defense surrendered less than 20 points
for the second consecutive
week after a 14-12 loss to
Uniontown in Week 7.
“Our defense the last
few weeks has played a lot
better,” Cheney said. “Offensively, we had over 100
yards. The kids are getting
better. We just have a lot
of young guns out there.”
The Lancers host a
Northern Heights team
that is also 0-8. The Wildcats come into the week
after falling 40-6 against
Pleasanton in Week 8. The
Wildcats have surrendered
40 points or more in each
of their games this season
and have scored 20 points
this season, averaging 70.3
yards of total offense.
“They’re in the same
boat we’re in,” Cheney
said. “They run the I-formation. They toss the ball
and try to put big people
in front of their backs.
Their fullback is a pretty
big kid.”
The Lancers and the
Wildcats met in Week 9
last year in another consolation game, and the
Lancers earned their first
win in a 20-6 victory.
“These guys just want
to keep playing and keep
practicing,” Cheney said.
“They keep wanting to do
the individual drills.
“A win would be a good
kickstart for next year. It’ll
help, it’ll be a big step.”
