SHS Earth Science Classes Explore Cherokee County
Mrs. White’s Earth Science classes have been busy exploring the environment of a local county. On Oct. 4th, Mrs. White’s Earth Science class went to the Mined Land Wildlife Area in West Mineral, also known to the locals as the strip pits, and to Big Brutus to learn more about sedimentary rocks and their uses.
Mrs. White’s students have started a conservation project and are working with Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and Missouri Organic Recycling. Students are learning how to reduce waste by composting. They have also participated in Zoom calls with Stan Slaughter, with Missouri Organic. He has helped with consultation on the students’ projects.
