USD 247 Board of Education Sets Special Meeting
Dear USD 247 Families and Community Members,
As you may know, the oldest building in our district—located in Weir—was built in 1916, making it over a century old. Maintaining a building of this age has become increasingly difficult. This year in particular, we experienced a significant increase in water penetration through the walls, roof, and foundation. These issues disrupt the learning environment, lead to costly repairs, and raise safety and health concerns.
Over the years, the board has invested considerable resources in repairs and updates. However, with a building this old, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep up without major renovations.
In light of these challenges, the board is planning a special meeting on Wednesday, June 4, at 6:00 p.m. to begin discussing the current condition, potential repairs, and future use of the Weir building. The meeting will be held in the gymnasium at Southeast Elementary School.
Public tours of the main building will be available starting at 4:45 p.m., and again following the conclusion of the meeting.
The Board of Education welcomes input from staff, families, and community members and you are invited to tour the building and attend the meeting.
