USD 247 BOE Holds Special Meeting Concerning Southeast Elementary School Main Building

WEIR — During a special USD 247 Board of Education meeting held at the Southeast Elementary School gym on June 4, 2025, Superintendent Dr. Brad Miner led a discussion regarding the condition of the main building at Southeast Elementary School and presented potential options for addressing the board’s concerns.

Following extensive discussion among board members and feedback from community members during a public forum, the board approved a motion to temporarily close the main building at Southeast Elementary School. As a result, 3rd and 4th grade students will be temporarily relocated to Southeast Middle School for the upcoming school year while additional renovation estimates are collected and alternative options are evaluated.

The board also authorized lead and asbestos testing of the main building. The results of these tests will be critical in determining next steps.

Once all relevant information is gathered, the board will hold another special meeting to continue the discussion and consider long-term solutions.

Superintendent Miner advised that families of 3rd and 4th grade students should plan to attend Southeast Middle School this fall and that additional information will be provided closer to enrollment.

Your support and understanding during this process are greatly appreciated. For questions, please contact Dr. Brad Miner at (620) 457-8350 or via email at bminer@usd247.com.
