Southeast PINKOUT Week ends with home football game; raffle

This week has been PINKOUT at Southeast High School. Five years ago PINKOUT started as a community service project of the Kansas Association of Youth, Southeast chapter.

“We do it to raise awareness about Breast Cancer and to raise money to help Breast cancer patients and patients that have other types of cancer,” said Southeast KAY sponsor Debbie Turner. “We donate the money we raise to ANGELS AMONG US, which is a local charity organization in Pittsburg, Kansas that helps cancer patients with funds to help get to and from treatments, etc.”

A few years ago, Turner asked the SHS Student Council to help in organizing the week long events.

“It is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the whole month of October, and we have a week where we raise the most awareness so this week happens to be PINKOUT Week at the High School,” said Student Council sponsor Sara Sutton.

This year, the week started with varsity volleyball games at home and ends with a home varsity football game.

At Monday’s varsity volleyball game pink bracelets and raffle tickets for a PINKOUT tote/blanket, and had a pink fire boot set out for donations.

At Friday’s game raffle tickets will continue to be sold for the PINKOUT tote/blanket. The drawing will be at halftime.

Turner said other PINKOUT items will also be for sale.
