SES students learning to fight food borne illnesses

Second, third and fourth graders at Southeast Elementary students are learning how quickly bacteria in food borne illnesses can grow. Without proper precautions the amount of bacteria on food can double every 20 minutes.

Precautions include CLEAN – washing your hands and surfaces often; SEPARATE – don’t cross-contaminate; COOK – cook to safe temperatures; and, CHILL – refrigerate promptly.

Parents of 2nd through 4th graders are encouraged to ask their students how to “Fight BAC” (foodborne bacteria).

The nutrition lessons are provided by Stacey Garbrick of the Wildcat Office in Pittsburg.
