SJHS takes 2nd at Erie Chess Tournament

The Southeast Junior High School Chess Team took 2nd place at a Tournament hosted by the Erie Elementary School on Saturday, December 6, 2014

“They had a great tournament,” said coach Ryan Hizey. “Each student from our Junior High team received a ticket for placing. I was very excited for our team.”

Due to the number of students at the competition the K-8 and K-12 sections were combined, but were separated for awards.

“They did very well in competition, having to play K-8 as well as K-12 opponents,” said Mr Hizey. “We had teams come all the way from Wichita and Lawrence.”

Team members particpating were Kyle Carter, Hunter Chrysler, Lillian Chrysler, Brody Newswander, Zachary Smith, Dakota Tyree and Josh Wyckoff.

Mr. Hizey said the tournament is the team’s last until after the Christmas break.
