Fruit slushy now on sale at SHS Spirit Shack

The Spirit Shack at Southeast High School has a new item for sale.  The student operated store is now selling blue raspberry fruit slushes for $1.25.

“We were wanting a cold drink machine that also met the state health guidelines,” said Southeast Spirit Shack sponsor Cherie Witt.  “We have found that no matter what time of year it is, cold drinks and ice cream products sell well.  Our sales were down in August-September due to the heat and not having cool drinks so this will definitely help with that.”

“We’ve wanted to do it for a while and we finally got the money,” said Southeast senior Katie Yancey.  “We got this machine on sale, so that’s why we went ahead and got it.”

Yancey said the machine was purchased with a loan from Southeast Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA).  She said she and fellow Spirit Shack managers Aubrey Colvin, Olivia Powell and Maggie Renn set up and tested the machine on Monday.

“We sold 47 blue raspberry slushes drinks in our first day – this is definitely an improvement,” said Witt.  “At this rate, we should have the machine paid back to FBLA by the end of this school year if not sooner.  Our students are learning about money management and how to pay of loans through this whole process.  We haven’t had to ask the board or school district for a single penny, which is quite the accomplishment.”

Witt said profits from the Spirit Shack are used to purchase new products to sell, are donated to other clubs and for scholarships for employees.

“All employees will walk away with some sort of scholarship money depending on their length of employment and management level,” Witt said.

Witt said organizations can request the support of the Spirit Shack.  Email her at cwitt@usd247.com.
