Southeast FFA Places 2nd in District Job Interview Competition

The Southeast FFA Chapter Jr./Sr. Team brought home 2nd place from the Southeast District FFA Job Interview contest on Wednesday, Feb. 11th. Junior Zoey Ball and Senior Jacob Zortz made up the two member team with Zoey earning 2nd high individual overall and Jacob earning 10th high individual. Zoey’s 2nd place finish in the district qualifies her to represent the Southeast District at the state contest in May.

The Freshman/Sophomore Job Interview team also brought home a 2nd place plaque in their respective division. Freshman Hannah Williams and Daisy Burns made up the team. Hannah finished 5th, while Daisy ranked 6th.

“This particular FFA competition is excellent for students to participate in as it gives them a taste of what it’s like to seek, apply for, and interview for a job or career,” said Southeast FFA sponsor Scott Sutton.  “Communication skills are an asset that has deteriorated in our students the past decade or so due to technology such as social media and text messaging. So, for students to be put through the process of an interview where they have to impress an adult judge; that’s and excellent promoter of mature adult communication.”

Labette County was 1st in both divisions edging out Southeast on a very successful day for both FFA Chapters.

The FFA Job Interview Career Development Event is comprised of five different categories. Prior to the contest, participants must submit a resume and cover letter. The day of the contest contestants are required to fill out a job application, get interviewed by a judge, then complete a follow-up letter using a computer, with the “spell-check” turned off. Each category is scored and contestants are given an overall score.
