Reigning CNC shot/javelin champion signs with Ottawa University

Southeast senior Laura Yancey has signed with the Ottawa University Track & Field Team.  Yancey is the reigning CNC League and Regional champion for both shot and javelin, was named All County and placed 5th at State last year in javelin.

Southeast Athletic Director Frank Pittman told students at a signing ceremony on Thursday that Yancey and her sisters have brought a lot of success and recognition to the school and its Track & Field team.

“What a pleasure it has been to be around this family,” Pittman said.  “If you go to the gym you’ll see that a lot of the records up there have been broken by this family.”

Laura is the school record holder for shotput and javelin, her sister Katie shares the school record for pole vault, and their older sister Kayla holds the school record for triple jump.

“It’s been an honor and a privilege,” Pittman said.  “It’s just another great part of the legacy of the family that Laura Yancey is going to continue her career at Ottawa University in Track and Field.”

“She’s an outstanding young lady,” said Ottawa University Track & Field Coach Kirk Wren, who was also in attendance at the ceremony.  “When I recruit the first couple of things I always ask is if they’re good students and good people and she definitely meets that and she’s a heck of an athlete.  We’re very excited about her coming to our university to get a quality education and also throw that javelin.”
