The Southeast FFA Farm Business Management team won its third and forth straight contests on Thursday at Allen Community College Aggie Days, and Friday at Northeast Oklahoma College Aggie Day competitions. The team, consisting of seniors Phillip Underwood, Jarod Watson, Aaron Westervelt and Jacob Zortz, won the Southeast Kansas District FFA contest back in December and took home 1st place last week at Fort Scott Community College Aggie Days. At both Thursday and Friday’s competitions it was no different as the team brought home two more pieces of 1st place hardware to add to the collection of plaques Southeast FFA has accumulated this year.
“The entire chapter has been tremendously successful in almost every contest we’ve competed in this year, but, the Farm Business Management team is our strongest team event by far,” said Southeast FFA Advisor Scott Sutton. “These young men have worked hard and represented our chapter extremely well over the past few years.”
Southeast senior Phillip Underwood was also presented with a $250 scholarship to the school of his choice for winning the Farm Business Management contest on Friday at NEO A&M College Aggie Days. Phillip’s teammate Jarod Watson was 2nd high individual – again, their team also won the contest.
After an undefeated spring contest run, the Farm Business Management team will now focus their efforts on preparing for the Kansas State FFA contest on May 5th in Manhattan, KS. The team finished 6th in the state last year and hopes to improve that ranking a month from now.
