The Southeast TSA program is in its third year at the high school and for the third consecutive year they are sending students to Nationals. At this week’s Kansas TSA State Conference the Southeast chapter took 2nd place in On Demand Video and both 1st and 2nd in Digital Video Production and two students, senior Ryan Thomas and junior Caleb Thompson, are going back to Nationals for the second year in a row.
“I was proud of the way our students acted and performed,” said Southeast TSA sponsor Brad Coots. “Kids from Southeast are naturally interested in and excel in technology and their successes in TSA and FBLA continue to prove that.”
Last year Thomas and Thompson took 1st place in both Digital Video Production and On Demand Video at the Kansas TSA State Conference. Their Digital Video Production entry took 7th place in the National Competition. This year, at State they took 1st in Digital Video Production and 2nd in On Demand Video, again qualifying for Nationals.
But the Southeast TSA wasn’t finished – the team of freshmen Jake Burns and Kyler Spahn and junior Bryson Spahn also took 2nd place in state in Digital Video Production. The top two teams from each category are supposed to go to Nationals, unfortunately, the rules only allow the top team from each school to qualify.
The Southeast TSA also collected the most pop tabs of any chapter across the state. Mr. Coots said he wanted to thank the community for their support in collecting the pop tabs. He said the pop tabs are turned into the Ronald McDonald house, who is then able to receive monetary donations for them.
The students will be raising money to be able to go on the trip to the 2015 National TSA Conference to be held in the Dallas, Texas area from June 28 to July 2. If you are interested in donating to this cause please contact Mr. Coots at Southeast High School at 620-457-8365.
