Southeast District FFA Entomology, Nursery Landscape and Land Competition at Fort Scott, September 16, 2015
The Southeast FFA Chapter kicked off its competition side of FFA on Thursday (September 16, 2015) in Fort Scott, KS. The Southeast District FFA held its Entomology, Nursery Landscape and Land Career Development Events on the Campus of Fort Scott Community College. Southeast competed in both the A and B divisions of the Entomology and Nursery Landscape contest. The “A” division is typically for juniors and seniors while the B division is for freshman and sophomores only.
The Nursery Landscape team took 3rd place honors in the B division with Sarah Clausen leading the way with a 9th place finish. This was Clausen’s first FFA contest and she was able to place in the top 10. Brody Tickel and Wyntr Jacobs were also on the team, Tickel finished 15th while Jacobs was 16th.
The Nursery Landscape A team finished 6th in their division. Team members included Courtney Ross, Cole Jameson, Sara Goins and Starla Wiggans.
The Entomology team took 4th place in the B division with John Jameson leading the way with an 8th place finish. This is John’s second time finishing in the top 10 of an FFA contest. He was 10th in last years Ag Management CDE. Just outside the top 10 were Cady Lloyd and Alli Markley finishing 12th and 13th respectively.
The Entomology A team finished 8th in their division. Team members included Sara Scholes, Kim Fraker and Cole Jameson.
The Southeast FFA district is comprised of 24 schools from the Southeast Kansas area. The district includes schools such as Fort Scott, Girard, Uniontown, Yates Center, Riverton, Labette County, Coffeyville, Caney, Fredonia, Erie, Columbus, Cherryvale, Altoona Midway, St. Paul, Iola, Eureka, Marmaton Valley, Humbolt, Sedan, Chetopa, West Elk, Elk Valley, Neodesha and of course Southeast.
The FFA Chapter’s next contest is the Greenhand Conference next Thursday in Iola, KS. This Career Development Event is for all first year members of the Chapter. Southeast plans to take 40+ FFA members to the event. Members will compete in an information test, Creed Speaking Contest and a Spelldown FFA Trivia contest. Members will also participate in leadership workshops held throughout the day. Last year Daisy Burns won the Creed Speaking contest, Jacob McGuire won the Spelldown contest and the Chapter finished 7th out of 24 in the Information contest.
