8th graders take part in Careers in Construction

The 7th Annual Careers in Construction Week event at the Fort Scott Community College satellite campus in Pittsburg is underway, and for the fourth year in a row the Southeast 8th graders took part.

The event introduces students to careers they may not know much about and organizers hope it inspires up and coming residential/commercial builders. Students don’t learn about jobs in a book – they get to try it out, even if just for a few minutes. Whether it’s operating heavy machinery, bricklaying or welding, students get an opportunity to try a variety of tasks and see how math, science and writing are a part of that job, especially construction management.
