The Southeast High School student body watched as five Lancer athletes signed to play collegiate athletics on Wednesday. Jordann Lunsford signed to play softball for Labette County Community College. Sam Holsinger and Tucker Mosley signed to play football for Fort Scott Community College. Dylan Lawrence signed to play football for Missouri Valley College. And Cameron Paasch signed to play football for Independence Community College.
“It’s not often that we have an opportunity for our athletes to go to the next level,” said Southeast High School Athletic Director Frank Pittman. “As long as we’re coaching or in a school, time flies, and when you have that opportunity to get to that next level you take it. You see what happens and life goes on.”
“Time does fly and these next years of college will fly by too,” said SHS Softball Head Coach Mike Bowman. “As a coach it’s always good to see your athletes go on to play at the next level. With Jordann, I’ve watched her mature and develop into a competitive athlete and a very confident young lady.”
Coach Bowman first met Lunsford several years ago when he was still the elementary school P.E. teacher.
“When you spoke to her she hid behind her classmates,” Coach Bowman said. “A very shy girl. So being a part of her life as her teacher and coach, it makes me proud of her accomplishments and the person that she has become.”
“It’s tremendous to have athletes go on to further their career and go on to play in college,” said SHS Head Football Coach Jerrad Hansen. “This past summer and this past year I really got to watch them blossom as leaders.”
“Right now I can’t be more proud of them as I coach because these guys represent the dedication, the hard work and the work ethic, really the morals and values of Lancer Football and what we’re trying to establish here and they have been tremendous people and tremendous players for us and I just with them the best of luck as they move forward,” Coach Hansen said.
