After placing 3rd a year ago at the Southeast District FFA Vet Science Career Development Event, the Freshman/Sophomore level team had their sights set on improving their ranking at this year’s contest. On Wednesday, March 23rd, they did just that by ranking 2nd in the district contest behind Labette County FFA. The Junior/Senior team placed 5th in their division. There were 14 teams in each division.
Individually, Cady Lloyd led the way for Southeast with an 8th place finish, and Alli Markley and Coltin Oehme were right behind Lloyd finishing 9th and 10th respectively. Oehme is one of the Pittsburg High School students attending Southeast one hour a day for the opportunity to be involved in Agriculture Education and FFA. Rounding out the Freshman/Sophomore team was Sarah Clausen, Brody Tickel and Wyntr Jacobs.
The 5th place Junior/Senior team consisted of Kim Fraker, Sara Scholes, Starla Wiggans and PHS students AJ Lair and David Pryor.
Southeast FFA’s next contest is this coming Friday, April 1, at Fort Scott Community College Aggie Days in Fort Scott, KS. Southeast will be participating in Public Speaking, Creed Speaking, Food Science, Ag Business Management, Floriculture, Nursery Landscape and Entomology. Last year Southeast took 1st in Ag Business Management, 2nd in Food Science and 3rd in the overall Sweepstakes contest which combines each school’s scores from all contests they enter.
FSCC Aggie Days attracts over 80 schools from Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas for the large one-day event.
