Southeast seniors Will Chrysler and Courtney Ross received a gold medal in the Food Innovations category at the FCCLA State Competition and have now qualified for nationals, to be held in San Diego, California, July 3-7. For their first place finish at this week’s State competition in Wichita, Chrysler and Ross will also be receiving a scholarship.
“We have had a great couple of days in Wichita at our FCCLA State Leadership Conference and Competition,” said Southeast FCCLA chapter sponsor Sonora Jones. “On Monday, our students competed with their teammates in their assigned STAR Events. Today (Tuesday) we have spent the day in breakout sessions over a variety of leadership topics, listened to keynote speaker, Adrienne Bulinski, who challenged us to ‘Think Big, Dream Big, Achieve Big, and Achieve Big.'”
On Tuesday, competitors also received their awards for STAR events.
In addition to Chrysler and Ross’s gold medal, Southeast sophomore Alaina Martinie and junior Shi Ann Crumpacker received a silver medal in the Interior Design category; and, seniors Melanie Hartman and Ariel Leone received a silver medal in the Illustrated Talk category.
“As a first year teacher, I could not be more proud of the accomplishments of each and every one of these students,” Mrs. Jones said. “They put in so much time in and outside of school to these projects and they are doing great things. I have learned from them as much or more than they have learned from me.”
