Six qualify for State; includes new School Record & Regional Champion

Congratulations to new school record holder Kalyn Bitner, Mireesa Gordon, Sam Holsinger, Saydi Sullivan, Jake Wyckoff and 1600 M Regional Champion Jessie Jenkins for qualifying for the Class 3A State Track & Field Meet.

The Class 3A Regional Track & Field Meet in Erie started off with a bang with senior Kalyn Bitner breaking Laura Yancey’s school record in the Girls Shotput with a throw of 35’11”. Yancey threw a 35’8″ last season. That mark was good enough for Bitner to place 4th at Regionals to qualify for State.

Senior Mireesa Gordon was the next Lancer to qualify for state by placing 3rd in the Girls High Jump, with a jump of 4’10”. Gordon would later jump 32’5″ in the Triple Jump, good enough for 4th place and another qualifier for the State Meet.

Senior Sam Holsinger also qualified for state by taking 2nd place in Boys Discus with a throw of 131’9″.

Freshman Jessie Jenkins was the next Lancer to qualify for State by running a 5:56.78 to win the Girls 1600 Meter Run – making her the Regional Champion. Jenkins also qualified for State in the Girls 3200 Meter Run, by placing 2nd at Regionals.

Freshman Saydi Sullivan qualified for State by taking 4th place in the Girls 300 Meter Hurdles.

Junior Jake Wyckoff qualified for State by taking 4th in the Boys 800 Meter Run.

The Boys Relay teams just missing going to State in both the 4×100 and the 4×400, taking 5th in both – only the top 4 go to State.

The State Meet is Friday May 27 and Saturday May 28 at Wichita State University.
