Storms, heat, don’t stop State Track Meet; SE school record broken

Several Southeast Lancers were supposed to compete in the KSHSAA All Class State Track Meet on Friday, but a storm dumped quite a bit of rain on Cessna Stadium so all of their events were pushed back to Saturday.

Friday, the Southeast group spent most of their afternoon in the Rhatigan Student Center, trying to relax during the original delays.

On Saturday, Freshman Jessie Jenkins, who first raced the Class 3A Girls 3200 Meter Run about a month ago, was the first Lancer to compete. Her 12:58.46 run was good enough for 12th place and broke her own school record. A few hours later, Jenkins took 13th in the 1600 Meter with a run of 6:03.17, about 5 seconds slower than her personal record.

Senior Mireesa Gordon tied for 14th by clearing 4’8″ in the Girls High Jump. Several hours later, Gordon finished 16th in the Triple Jump with a jump of 29’7″.

Senior Kalyn Bitner took 12th in the Girls Shotput with a throw of 34’5.5″.

Fellow freshman Saydie Sullivan took 15th in the Girls 300 Meter Intermediate Hurdles with a run of 55.01.

Junior Jacob Wyckoff took 14th in the Boys 800 Meter Run with a run of 2:15.13.

Senior Sam Holsinger scratched in all four attempts in the Boys Discus to finish 16th.
