Southeast High School students took 2nd overall in Video Sweepstakes at the 2016 MSSU Media Showcase held Thursday December 1, losing only to Webb City.
“We won the most overall awards but there’s a certain number of points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, and some of those big schools probably had 50 or 60 kids there,” said Southeast multimedia instructor Mr. Brad Coots.
Mr. Coots said he heard there were more than 400 students at the Media Showcase this year, and even though Southeast won the Video Sweepstakes last year, he was glad they did so well once again especially since they a couple of graduates had a heavy hand in last years win.
Southeast has found a niche in video editing, having won State Championships and sent teams to the TSA Nationals competition in each of the past four years.
“It’s in their interest area of technology and the culture of winning is contagious, and every time somebody leaves we’ve had somebody else just step up to fill their spot. When a senior leaves everybody always expects ‘this is the end of the road’, but someone always steps up. It’s just a matter of time until a kid finds something they’re interested in and they take off. The kids are most interested in learning by doing and that’s what video production is.”
Mr. Coots said the projects were turned in about a month ago to be judged.
Southeast took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the 5 Second Video category. Eric Underwood took 1st, Jake Burns and Dylan Wilson took 2nd, and Eric Underwood took 3rd.
