If you were a Southeast student from the early 1970’s through the early 1980’s, there is a good chance the negative of your senior portrait is now for sale. Rennett Studio based in Fort Scott, Kansas is closing their doors and they are now selling all of the negatives they have taken over the past 50 years – weddings, family groups, as well as senior portraits for numerous area schools, including Southeast.
“After many years of taking pictures of seniors, children, families and weddings, we are finally closing our doors,” Chris Barnett says in a letter mailed to Southeast. “During our closing, we have had many people tearfully thanking us for still having them and making them available to the families.”
In the letter, Barnett says pricing varies but senior portraits pay no more than $25 plus postage fees.
“As we have stored these in a safe environment all these years, we feel they are worth much more but mainly want to reunite them with the families,” Barnett says. “Many family members have found mothers and fathers, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, and grandparents in our files. The orders date back to the early 60’s but many portraits older than that are unidentified and can be searched through for your family members.”
The studio closes in July and all negatives will be destroyed at that time.
In the meantime, the studio will be open on Tuesday’s from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information or to make an appointment to make a search, please call 620-223-1970 or 620-224-6188. The studio is located at 6 North Main in Fort Scott.
“Time is running out to obtain these memories before they are gone forever,” notes Barnett.
