CHEROKEE, Kan. – The USD 247 Southeast school board has given permission to pursue a lease agreement for the McCune school building with Greenbush – the Southeast Kansas Education Service Center. Greenbush would use the facility for Project Alternative, which serves 26 area school districts and helps students develop academic and social skills to transition them back into their regular school environment.
While details of the lease agreement for the McCune building are still being worked out, the USD 247 superintendent believes it is not a matter of ‘if’ the lease will happen, but ‘when’, saying everyone involved recognizes the opportunity available to use an already existing campus that is centrally located within the region for a needed service.
Greenbush, who has a similar partnership in Fairfax with the USD 500 Kansas City school district, wants to reopen the facility for this coming school year.
