Students in the Career & Life Planning class were challenged to organize and carry out a community/school service project. They decided that they would coordinate having a “blessing box” in the school filled with personal hygiene items. In order to fill the blessing box, they are hosting a drive this week to gather items.
Students can bring items like deodorant, soap, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, pads/tampons, etc. to the box in their 1st hour teacher’s room or contribute in the Penny Wars each day during lunch time.
For Penny Wars there are 5 jars (Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, Staff) and every penny that you put in your jar earns your group a positive point and every other denomination (nickels, dimes, quarters, dollar bills, etc.) is worth negative points. The object is for your group to get the most points and win an ice cream party!
Example: a penny is +1 point, a nickel is -5 points, a dollar is -100 points.
The money raised through Penny Wars will be used to purchase more hygiene items.
The collection and penny wars end this Friday, October 19th and the Blessing Box will be available to students starting on Monday, October 22nd.
Contact Mrs. Holden at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested in contributing to this blessing box or have questions about the project.
