Varsity Scholars Bowl Team Rounds Out Season

The SHS Varsity Scholars Bowl members competed at the Regional Tournament yesterday at Bluestem High School in Leon, KS. They ended their season last night, with a tie for 3rd place (top 2 teams advance to State).

These six seniors led the team with great academic strength. Each of the seniors contributed to the team in their own unique way. Leading the team in total points scored this season was Brody Newswander, the frontrunner in Social Science category, Katura Amershek as the jack-of-all-trades answering an even amount in almost every category throughout the season, Amanda Becker being the leader in Mathematics questions, and Peyton Simpson in Language Arts & Fine Arts. Josh Wyckoff & Maeleah Hartmann contributed regularly as well, scoring high in the Social Science and Fine Arts categories, respectively.

1st Place @ Regionals: Wichita Independent

2nd Place @ Regionals: St. Mary’s Colgan

Other teams in our regional tournament: Conway Springs, Remington, Garden Plain, Humboldt, Jayhawk Linn, Sedgwick, Yates Center, Northeast, West Elk, Bluestem, Oswego, Pleasanton, and Uniontown.

“These seniors had an outstanding season to end out their senior year. They should be very proud of the teamwork that the exhibited and the leadership that they modeled to the upcoming scholars bowl members.” – Janet Holden, Coach
