Board to Consider Name Change
At it’s regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 13, the USD 247 Board of Education heard a presentation from Southeast Junior High building principal, Nick Hansen, concerning a possible name change of the building from Southeast Junior High to Southeast Middle School. Mr. Hansen said this conversation began with his school site council that is made up of teachers, parents, and business community. Changing the name to Southeast Middle School better reflects the grade configuration (grades 5, 6, 7, & 8) and what occurs in the building such as how students transition classes and a focus on developing the whole child socially, physically, and academically. Junior high configurations are typically grades 7 & 8 or 7, 8, & 9 and are considered mini high schools. The board will consider the name change at it’s February meeting to allow time for public input and comment. Please direct any questions or input to building principal Nick Hansen at nhansen@usd247.com or by calling 620-457-8315.
