Track Renovation Update

To the Employees and Patrons of Unified School District 247:

As you may be aware, USD 247 contracted for the construction of a new track at our sports complex.  The completed track did not meet with the satisfaction of the board of education.  The board would like to thank you for your patience as we deal with issues concerning the ongoing track renovations and repairs at Southeast High School. Since these problems were first discovered, the Board has been working to obtain an appropriate resolution to the problems regarding the usability of the track. Please be aware that the safety and well-being of the students, faculty, staff, and public that use the track remains the Board’s primary concern, and is the reason for some of the restrictions on track use that have been put in place.  At this time, the district will not be able to host track meets.  Track practice and patron walking will be allowable but restricted to certain areas.

The Board also prioritizes its role as a good steward of District funds, and is prepared to take any necessary steps to ensure the money spent on the track renovations will result in the product that was purchased. The Board is currently considering all its options and will provide updates as they become available.

Unfortunately, these matters can be a tedious process and take time to resolve. Please rest assured that the Board is aware of the problem and has been actively seeking a resolution. If you have additional questions or concerns, please direct your inquiries to Dr. Miner, Superintendent, at (620) 457-8350 or at bminer@usd247.com.

Sincerely,

USD 247 Board of Education
