I want to take a moment to honor our senior runners. Quite often we blast times and talk about fancy terms like “A new PR,” or “personal best time.” However, what gets lost in translation is the magnitude of those accomplishments. To remedy this, I want to share the times of each of these seniors from their first 5k’s to their fastest Senior 5k time so you can truly get a picture of how much they have accomplished. Next to each time I will add what those times are per mile.

Senior Shout Out:
Matthew Fleck:
Freshman: 21:11 – 6:49/Mile   Senior: 17:48 – 5:44/Mile

Darin Rex:
Freshman: 25:01 – 8:03/Mile   Senior: 19:09 – 6:10/Mile

Isabel Kinyon: (Started 6 weeks ago)
1st 5k time: 48:41 – 15:40/Mile  Regional Time: 39:30  12:43/Mile

Karlena Spahn:
Freshman: 34:35 – 11:08/Mile   Senior: 22:37 – 7:17/Mile
(To put Karlena’s time into perspective, Jessie Jenkins placed 15th at state running a time of 21:21 in 2016.) In a regional race, sometimes if enough runners from a qualifying team are in the top 10, a certain amount of non-qualifying team members can get into the meet beyond the top 10. This year, 11 spots got to go to state. Karlena missed going to state this year by one spot!
