Welcome Back Staff Breakfast and Assembly

CHEROKEE – On Tuesday, August 9th, all USD 247 staff were greeted by district administration with a welcome back breakfast and assembly.  Opening the assembly, middle school principal Nick Hansen served as the Master of Ceremonies to welcome all staff back to school.  District administration then introduced all new staff as well as all returning staff by building across the district.

Dr. Miner also welcomed everyone back and presented a new theme for the school year: “Living the Lancer Life.”  The theme will be used in activities with staff and students throughout the school year.  To kick the theme off, all staff were divided up into groups and were charged with two tasks.  First, they were to get to know their group members and be prepared to share about what they learned about their group members when the activity was completed.  Secondly, they were to design and decorate a large 16-inch cookie around the theme of Living the Lancer Life.

The cookies were judged on presence of the theme, creativity, team member participation, level of enthusiasm, and appetite appeal.

The winning team was Group #2!

The judges were Southeast students Kassidy Fox (Jr. – McCune), Tanner Wiles (Jr. – Pittsburg), and Jacob Shuster (Sr. – Weir).  The judges got to select one cookie of their choice to share.  All other cookies were given away to staff members in a random drawing.

After our back-to-school staff assembly, all staff were invited to an absolutely wonderful lunch at the First Baptist Church of Cherokee. This is something the church has done for many years for our Southeast staff and it is most appreciated!
