SOUTHEAST STUDENTS WATCH HAMILTON

On Thursday, February 23, a group of Southeast High School students traveled to Springfield to watch the wildly popular musical, Hamilton. First performed on Broadway in 2015, the musical tells the story of one of our lesser-known Founding Fathers, Alexander Hamilton. With a cast that included figures like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr, and even King George, it was a veritable “Who’s Who” of American history!

The performance was the first time a production of Hamilton has been in the midwest, and we were very fortunate to be able to go. Hamilton has been a hit with students for years. I know this because every time we would go on a trip, they would sing the songs–constantly! The students who actually got to go this year, I think, recognize how fortunate they were to witness it. For some of them, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. With any luck, we will get to do something like this again next year.
