SHS Students Participate in PSU Science Day

Pittsburg State Science Day was held on Thursday, April 16, where students competed in a variety of events across Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science.

Biology events included hands-on activities such as sounds of nature and wildlife tracking, along with written tests in Anatomy & Physiology. Students also had the opportunity to tour the PSU Cadaver Lab, offering insight into potential careers in health professions. Chemistry students participated in both individual and team-based assessments, demonstrating their knowledge and problem-solving skills.

Physics events featured a wide range of challenges, including mousetrap cars, paper tower construction, Mars colony design, astronomy, and geology. Students also completed a rigorous overall physics test consisting of 180 questions in just 40 minutes.

Our students performed exceptionally well in Physics. In the Paper Tower event, James Maxton and Cody Vineyard earned 3rd place. The Mars Colony team of AJ Gray, Ethan Becker, and Michael Smith secured 2nd place. In the overall physics test, AJ Gray, Ethan Becker, Michael Smith, and Zayne Gabern also placed 2nd. Additional points were earned with a 4th place finish in Mousetrap Cars by Marley Moore and Addy Ulepich, resulting in an overall 2nd place finish in Physics for Southeast.

Biology students also achieved strong results, earning an overall 2nd place. Zayne Gabern placed 2nd in Anatomy & Physiology, and Brodie Lorenzo earned 2nd place in Wildlife Sounds.
