The Southeast Wrestling Team competed at Kansas 1/2/3A Regionals in Fredonia on Saturday 2.16.19. The team consisted of junior and Captain Ramsey Center, sophomores Cody Gath, Micah Uber, Austin Shipman, Gage Pierson, and freshmen Quintonn Lunsford and Cullen Mutz. Ramsey, Micah, Cody, and Austin were bested in both matches going 0-2 each, while fighting hard in all contests. Cullen and Quintonn went 1-2, with Quintonn being eliminated in the blood round. Sophomore Gage Pierson had a bye the first round then upset the #2 ranked Zacharias Lough (20-14) of Douglass in his bracket with a pin in the first period. He would lose his next match in the semifinals, being forced to the back side consolation finals and the blood round. He faced junior Raymond Johnston of Hillsboro High School. Johnston (19-17) proved no match for Pierson, with Pierson winning 7-2 and thereby punching his ticket to the Kansas State wrestling tournament in Hayes next weekend. Gage would lose to Lough in the consolation finals and place 4th at regionals. Gage is the first wrestler since Tyler Kester in 2016 (4th) and 2017 (2nd) to go to State for Southeast. Join us in wishing Gage good luck next week at State!
