Saturday we played our first matches. Due to covid, the TRL tournament had to move locations and was modified to just pool play. Our pool consisted of Southeast, Marmaton Valley, St. Paul, Chetopa and Pleasanton. We ended the day 2-2. I was pleased with how we did. We have a young team. We had 4 freshmen playing on Saturday, and they did pretty well for their first varsity experiences. It was nice to play to see what we need to work on.
Both our setters are in their first season setting for varsity. Sophomore, Kinzey Cassidy and Freshman, Natalie Wells both got better throughout the day of play.
I was very pleased with our serving. Junior, Malia Vinson had 10 aces and Senior Kalle Bitner had 7 aces. Our back court players Senior, Kaylinn Martin, Junior, Zoey Tavernaro and Vinson played well helping keep the ball alive and improving on their ball control throughout the day. Martin had 21 digs, Vinson had 20 digs and Tavernaro had 10 digs. Our kill leaders were Vinson with 21 kills and Bitner with 17 kills. We are showing areas we need to improve on. Our goal is to improve each match and play hard. We have a great group of girls. We are excited for the season.
Lost vs St. Paul 16-25, 12-25, Won vs Pleasanton 25-19, 25-18, Lost vs Marmonton Valley 21-25, 10-25, Won vs Chetopha 25-19, 25-12. St. Paul went 4-0, Marmonton Valley went 3-1, Southeast went 2-2, Pleasanton went 1-3, Chetopa went 0-4.
Our next match is Thursday Sept. 2nd, a Quad at home against Baxter, Erie, and Riverton. Game times will be played at 5, 6 & 7pm.
Last night our JV went to Neodesha and went 0-3. They played Neodesha, Frontenac, and Burlington. They started tight and nervous, but ended the night having fun and starting to figure out the rotations.
