SHS Varsity Volleyball Takes 3rd at Dexter

CHEROKEE – Southeast Varsity Volleyball took 3rd place at the Dexter Volleyball Tournament this Saturday (9/17) in Dexter, Kansas. There were 8 teams competing at the tournament this weekend: Dexter, Flint Hills, Argonia, Central, Oxford, Sedan, Wichita, and Southeast.

Southeast went 3-2 for the weekend. In pool play we went 2-1.

We lost against Oxford- 25-16, 26-28, 23-25

“We did a really good job at earning our points this match. We had 34 kills as a team. I think that’s the most we have had yet in a match, but we just made too many errors over all to come away with the win.”

We won against Central- 25-5, 25-17

“The girls came out strong and really cut their errors and played well. We served very well in this match with 16 aces.”

We won against Dexter 25-21, 25-21

“After pool play we were seeded 2nd seed in our pool with Oxford being first, so we played Flint Hills, the number one seed in pool 2 and Oxford played Argonia. These games were for us to see who would get 1st-4th places of the tournament.”

We lost against Flint Hills 9-25, 15-25

“We came out flat and made a lot of errors in serve receive. Our passes were inconsistent so we could never get our offense going. Flint Hills was a strong team that moved the ball very well and ran a quick offence. We gave a lot of free balls back to them and they were able to run their offense and convert them to points.”

For the 3rd place game we played, we won vs Oxford 25-15, 25-23

“I was proud of the girls for coming back and defeating Oxford for the 3rd place win since we had lost to them prior. We were able to keep the errors down, stay focused, and have fun. The girls showed some metal toughness to be able to compete to the end, even when they were tired. I was proud of them, because we have been working on getting stronger mentally. Over all I was proud of our girls continuing to improve throughout the day and how our bench had excellent support the whole day!!!!” – Head coach Maya White

Quote from Sr. Zoey Tavernaro, “Today there were a lot of ups and downs. We have been getting out of our comfort zone recently and I’m really proud of us for that. There were times where we did really well, and there were times where we weren’t focused and in it as much as we should have. We also had really good energy for the majority of the games we played today. But, overall I’m proud of us today for getting third place!”
